Sacred Heart: Ami Paris Weaves a Parisian Romance in its Latest SS23 Collection
Ami Paris unveiled its new collection "Cœur Sacré" (Sacred Heart) at the close of the third day of Paris Fashion Week. The collection, inspired by the city and particularly the iconic Montmartre neighborhood, was showcased on a dreamy stage: the steps of the Sacré Cœur, overlooking the city.
The proposal by Alexandre Mattiussi, creative director of Ami Paris, reflects his love for the French capital and his vision of what it means to be Parisian. With influences from the 60s, the collection includes loose blazers, diamond-patterned knitwear, and leather jackets, celebrating both the essence of Paris and certain Parisian stereotypes.
The show featured celebrities such as Catherine Deneuve, Carla Bruni, and Naomi Campbell. Additionally, Audrey Tautou, famous for her role in the movie "Amelie" set in Montmartre, came out of her public retirement to open the show. Other notable models included Liya Kebede, Karen Elson, Precious Lee, Cara Delevingne, and Kristen McMenamy.
Mattiussi explained in an interview with Hypebeast that choosing the Sacré Cœur as the stage has special meaning for him: "It's my district. I've been on the hill for 20 years, it's a place I go most of the time. It's a place everyone loves, but Parisians don't go as often because it's a tourist site. I wanted to bring people back there because it's magical. I love the idea of showing Paris in a romantic and cinematic way."
The collection pays tribute to different characters from Montmartre, following AMI's mission to create clothing for Parisians. "I always try to define the ideal of what a Parisian wardrobe is, a French quintessence in terms of style," said Mattiussi. "It was about putting everyone in the role of Parisians living in the district. You had the cool girls, the American tourists with 'Cœur Sacré' t-shirts, the elegant wealthy lady who might be an art dealer. All these characters are present because AMI is really for everyone".
The homage to Paris was not only reflected in the collection but also in the stage design and model selection. In addition to Tautou, recognized models walked alongside emerging ones and those discovered on the street, creating a unique atmosphere that celebrated the diversity and beauty of the city.
Mattiussi concluded: "I'm in love with Paris, it's my favorite city in the world, a place I've called home for 24 years. I feel grateful every morning. Even when you don't feel very good or you're in a bad mood, Paris offers you beauty all the time. This collection is a love letter to Paris."
The collection is now available in our boutiques and soon on our website.
